In 2007, Melanie Perkins, a 19-year-old student in Australia noticed her classmates struggled with complex design tools like Photoshop. Melanie had an idea for a simple drag-and-drop design tool to make things easier. She started by building an online yearbook tool in her mom’s living room, she called it Fusion Books. Then she pitched the bigger idea to investors. Over a hundred investors told her no! They called it “too ambitious.” Melanie didn't quit, she dialed in her pitch and built a strong team to help. In 2013 she finally launched a web-based photo editor. You may have heard of it, Canva is worth $32 billion!
